Street Lighting Solution

When the City of Mississauga decided to switch out 51,000 high-power sodium street lights and convert them to energy saving LEDs, they put their trust in Alectra Energy Solutions’ street lighting team. For the past 15 years, Alectra Power Services, a subsidiary of Alectra Energy Solutions, has provided the City of Mississauga with street lighting maintenance services in an area that covers just under 300 square kilometers.
The contract includes repairs and replacement of damaged infrastructure to the street light system as well as responding to an average of 400 service calls each month. For the citywide LED lighting conversion project, it also required the street lighting team to install ‘smart control’ nodes to each fixture, and program the devices to allow for adaptive control of the entire system. The new smart system allowed the City of Mississauga to achieve energy savings of approximately 55% of their current energy consumption of street lights.
It took just over three years to complete the LED conversion. All the while, Alectra Power Services was also responding to the City’s day-to-day street lighting needs, ensuring street lights on major roads, thoroughfares and residential roads were serviced, and meeting stringent performance goals.
