Norm Loberg (Chair)
Norman (Norm) Loberg is Chair of the Board for Alectra Inc. He was appointed this position in January 2017, following the merger of Enersource, Horizon Utilities and PowerStream and subsequent purchase of Hydro One Brampton. As an Alectra Board member, Norm is also a member of the utility’s Human Resources & Compensation Committee.
From May 2007 to January 2017, Norm served as Chair of Enersource Corporation. He also held several senior executive positions within the Enbridge Inc. family of companies and retired from Enbridge Consumers Gas in 1999. He then served as President of BrandActive International Inc., a corporate brand implementation company. In 1999, Norm founded Quadra Bay Inc., a business services company and currently serves as its Chairman.
Norm is a past Director of The Greater Toronto Airports Authority and former Director and Chair of Credit Valley Hospital. He served as Chair of the Ontario Natural Gas Association, and is a former Chair of Tourism Toronto.
He is currently a Director of the Hazel McCallion Foundation for Arts and Culture and is Chair of Mississauga’s Legend Row.
Gerald (Gerry) Beasley is a former senior executive, who continues to provide his leadership expertise to several high-profile organizations.
In addition to his role as a Director on the Alectra Inc. Board, Gerry is Chair of the utility’s Audit, Finance & Risk Management Committee and a member of the Integration Committee. Previously, he was a Director for Enersource Corporation and served as Chair of the Audit Committee. Gerry also serves as Director and Audit Committee Chair of First Canadian Title Insurance in Oakville, Ontario.
Gerry has served as a director, board advisor and chair to numerous companies and charitable organizations, including the Trillium Health Centre Foundation.
In 1968, Gerry joined Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) and throughout the years, he held various senior positions in Canada and the United States. From 1994 to 2000, he served as the Senior Executive Vice President, Risk Management at CIBC.
Gerry has a B.Comm. from St. Patrick’s College and an MBA from the Ivey Business School at Western University.
Paul Benson is a seasoned advisor in the areas of strategy, mergers and acquisitions, restructuring and corporate finance.
In addition to his role as a Director on the Alectra Inc. Board, Paul is Vice-Chair of the Audit, Finance & Risk Management Committee and a member of the Integration Committee. He was previously the Chair of Hamilton Utilities Corporation and former Chair of the Audit and Risk Management Committee. He also served as a Director and member of the Audit Committee for Horizon Utilities.
Paul has held numerous Board positions including, Chair of Oakville Hydro and the company’s Audit Committee. He was also Chair of the Finance Committee for UNICEF Canada and Chair of the Special Committee addressing the restructuring of Brainhunter – a company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Paul is a principal shareholder and Chairman of Isotherm Technologies Inc., a manufacturer of food and beverage heating and cooling appliances for military vehicles sold worldwide.
Paul is a retired Ernst & Young Partner. Having served 26 years at Ernst & Young, Paul’s responsibilities included Group Managing Partner and National Director of Corporate Finance. He was also President and a shareholder in Canadian Corporate Funding Limited. In 2003, Paul established Benson Van Laer & Co. and was a founding partner of Delta Capital, an investment banking boutique.
Paul is a Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Accountant and holds a B.Comm. (Honours) degree from Queen’s University.
The Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua is currently serving his second term as the Mayor of the City of Vaughan.
In addition to his role as a Director on the Alectra Inc. Board, Maurizio is Chair of the utility’s Integration Committee.
Before becoming Mayor, Maurizio was a Member of Parliament for 22 years and served in several roles including Minister of State for Finance, Minister of State for Science, Research and Development, as well as Chairman of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance. Maurizio is also currently Vice Chairman of VersaBank.
He is the recipient of numerous awards including ‘Premio Italiani nel Mondo’ awarded by the Italian Government to individuals of Italian heritage who have served as outstanding role models; The State of Israel Bonds Canada, for his contribution to improving labour-management relations; and in recognition of his work advancing Canada/US relations, he was presented with the Key to the City of Dallas.
Maurizio is a graduate of York University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. He is also a graduate of the Directors Education Program from the Institute of Corporate Directors and Rotman School of Management.
Robert (Rob) Cary is a Senior Consultant to Charles River Associates.
Rob has more than 20 years of experience in the electricity industry and has been instrumental in the development and advancement of electricity markets throughout Canada.
In addition to his role as a Director on the Alectra Inc. Board, Rob is Chair of the Human Resources & Compensation Committee, and a member of the Corporate Governance & Nominating Committee. Previously, he was Chair of Horizon Inc., and St. Catharines Hydro Utility Services Inc.
Rob was also a Director of the Association of Power Producers of Ontario (APPrO) for many years, and he continues to serve as a Director for St. Catharines Hydro Inc.
In 2012, APPrO awarded Rob with its annual Hedley Palmer award in recognition of his contributions to the electricity sector.
Rob has an MA from the University of Cambridge, and an MBA from Cranfield School of Business. He is a professional engineer and has completed the Chartered Director program at the Directors’ College.
Mayor Bonnie Crombie is currently serving her first term as the Mayor of the City of Mississauga.
In addition to her role as a Director on the Alectra Inc. Board, Bonnie is Vice Chair of the utility’s Human Resources and Compensation Committee.
Prior to being elected Mayor, Bonnie served as a Ward Councillor, and a Member of Parliament for Mississauga-Streetsville.
During her term as Mayor, the City of Mississauga has received numerous awards including Municipality of the Year by Festivals and Events Ontario, and the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association. Bonnie was also awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for her ongoing work in the community.
Bonnie has an MBA from York University’s Schulich School of Business and she earned a Corporate Director’s Certificate from the Institute of Corporate Directors at the Rotman School of Management.
Giuseppina (Pina) D’Agostino is a law professor, lawyer and legal scholar.
In addition to her role as a Director on the Alectra Inc. Board, Pina is Vice-Chair of the Corporate Governance & Nominating Committee, and a member of the Human Resources & Compensation Committee.
As a Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School specializing in intellectual property and innovation law and policy, Pina is regularly called upon by the Canadian Federal and Provincial governments for advice and is a cited authority at the Supreme Court of Canada. A published author, she is also the Founder and Director of IP Osgoode, the IP Intensive, and the Innovation Clinic - the first legal clinic of its kind helping innovative start-ups. She is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Intellectual Property Journal and the founder and Editor-in-Chief of the IPilogue, the first IP law blog of its kind.
Pina has a Master's and D.Phil degree from the University of Oxford, as well as an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School.
Fred Eisenberger is currently serving his second term as the Mayor of Hamilton.
In addition to his role as a Director on the Alectra Inc. Board, Fred is a member of the utility’s Corporate Governance and Nominating Committee.
Prior to becoming Mayor, Fred was a Ward Councillor and member of Hamilton City Council, Chair of the Hamilton Port Authority and President and Chief Executive of the Canadian Urban Institute.
During Fred’s tenure as Mayor, the City of Hamilton has received numerous awards, including recognition from the Conference Board of Canada for having Canada’s most-diversified economy, and from the Intelligent Community Forum which named Hamilton as one of the top ‘21 Smart Communities’ in the world.
Fred is focused on achieving continued growth and prosperity, as well as protecting the environment. He was instrumental in landing a $1-billion Light Rail Transit initiative for Hamilton, for ensuring Syrian refugees were welcomed and settled in the city, and for putting forward a $50-million proposal to improve affordable housing and reduce poverty.
Originally from Amsterdam, Fred graduated with Honours from Mohawk College and also studied environmental sciences at the University of Waterloo.
Jeff Lehman is currently serving his second term as the Mayor of the City of Barrie.
In addition to his role as a Director on the Alectra Inc. Board, Jeff is a member of the utility’s Audit, Finance & Risk Management Committee.
As an economist, Jeff has worked with cities across the country to manage redevelopment and invest in their urban infrastructure. He also writes and speaks frequently on issues affecting Canada’s cities.
During Jeff’s term as Mayor, Barrie has been named the safest big city in the country, and was recently called Canada’s third most entrepreneurial city by the Financial Post.
Jeff holds a B.A. from Queen’s University, and a Master’s degree with first class Honours from the UK’s London School of Economics, where he lectured for two years following graduation. He is a Chartered Director (C.Dir) and was awarded the Gil Bennett Award in 2017 for raising the bar for professional standards in corporate governance through the Chartered Director Program.
Don Lowry is a chairman, director and board advisor, focused on strategy, high performance governance and the advancement of board diversity.
In addition to his role as a Director on the Alectra Inc. Board, Don is Vice-Chair of the Integration Committee, and a member of the Human Resources & Compensation Committee.
Don is the former President & CEO of EPCOR and past-President & COO of TELUS.
After 16 years at EPCOR Utilities, Don stepped down to focus on corporate board work and to serve on local community boards and associations. Don is currently non-executive Chair of Capital Power and past non-executive Chair of Canadian Oil Sands. He also serves as a Director for Stantec, Hydrogenics and Melcor REIT. As a professional Director, Don earned his ICD.D designation from the Rotman School of Business at the University of Toronto.
In 2010, Don was recognized as Alberta Venture’s Business Person of the Year and in 2013, as Alberta’s Energy Resource Person of the Year.
Don holds a B.Comm. (Honours) and an MBA from the University of Manitoba. He is also a graduate of the Harvard Advanced Management Program and the Banff School of Management.
Teresa Moore, CPA, CA is a Partner at Collins Barrow (Vaughan) LLP. She is currently in charge of the firm’s professional standards and quality and serves on the human resources and operating management committees.
In addition to her role as a Director on the Alectra Inc. Board, Teresa is a member of the Audit, Finance & Risk Management Committee, and the Corporate Governance & Nominating Committee.
Teresa’s career has primarily been in the field of public accounting. Her past experience also includes a term as Director of Finance and Administration of a mid-cap consumer product manufacturer. Throughout her career, Teresa has developed long-standing, committed clients who rely on her for accounting, audit, tax, mergers and acquisitions, and general business advice.
In addition to her commitment to client services, she has served her community as a past volunteer Treasurer at the Sport Alliance of Ontario, at a local high school and at Community Home Assistance to Seniors (CHATS). She also served as a volunteer Board member at Opera York.
Teresa is a graduate from the Schulich School of Business with a Bachelor of Business Administration. She started her career with a Big Four firm where she attained her CA designation.
Mayor Frank Scarpitti is the second longest serving Mayor of Markham.
In addition to his role as a Director on the Alectra Inc. Board, Frank is a member of the utility’s Audit, Finance & Risk Management Committee. Previously, he served as Chair and Vice-Chair of the Board for PowerStream.
Mayor Scarpitti was first elected to Markham Council in 1985 as a Regional Councillor and has been re-elected to public office eight times over the last 29 years. He also serves as Chair of York Regional Police and York Region Rapid Transit Corporation.
During his tenure as Mayor, the City of Markham has received numerous awards, including the National Award for Municipal Innovation from the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators, and a Gold Award for Organizational Quality & Healthy Workplace from Excellence Canada.
Frank also provides his leadership expertise to many non-profit associations related to health, culture and quality of life programming.
Annesley Wallace is a Managing Director at Borealis Infrastructure. She is responsible for managing investments across the Borealis Americas portfolio to deliver long-term value for the OMERS pension fund. In this role, Annesley is a Director on the Boards of Bruce Power, LifeLabs, DynaLIFE, CannAmm and Alectra.
In addition to her role as a Director on the Alectra Inc. Board, Annesley is Chair of the Corporate Governance & Nominating Committee, and a member of the Integration Committee.
Prior to her role at Borealis Infrastructure, Annesley was Vice-President, Operations at SNC-Lavalin, and was responsible for engineering, procurement, project controls and project management for the Energy and Infrastructure business.
Annesley holds a Bachelor of Science (Mechanical Engineering) degree and a Master of Science (Mechanical and Materials Engineering) degree from Queen's University. She also has a Master of Business Administration degree from the Schulich School of Business at York University and is a registered Professional Engineer in Ontario.
